India and Canada are set to deepen their economic engagement as Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, announced a Team Canada Trade Mission to India later this year. The announcement came during Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Toronto, where he held multiple meetings with Canadian business leaders, investors and industry representatives to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties.

Scheduled for November, the trade mission aims to bring Canadian companies to India to explore partnerships across emerging and strategic sectors, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, renewable energy, clean technology, nuclear energy, digital infrastructure, critical minerals and advanced manufacturing.

The announcement was made during a fireside chat between Goyal and Sidhu at the Canada-India Building Bridges event organised by Global Affairs Canada in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and ASSOCHAM at the World Trade Centre Toronto.

According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Goyal highlighted the growing complementarities between the two economies and emphasised the importance of creating a more predictable and collaborative business environment supported by stronger government-industry partnerships.

Sidhu welcomed what he described as the “largest-ever Indian business delegation to Canada,” featuring representatives from over 100 Indian companies. More than 150 participants from sectors such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, clean technology, energy, advanced manufacturing and oil and gas attended the event.

Goyal also co-chaired the Canada-India Investment Roundtable with Sidhu, where discussions focused on India’s infrastructure push, financial sector reforms and improving ease of doing business. He invited Canadian investors to explore opportunities in clean energy, manufacturing, technology, artificial intelligence and supply chain diversification.

The Union Minister additionally held one-on-one meetings with major Canadian firms and institutional investors from sectors including banking, insurance, food processing and critical minerals processing, highlighting India’s economic growth prospects, policy reforms, PLI schemes, STEM talent pool and expanding Global Capability Centre ecosystem.
